Scholarships

The Catholic Community Foundation believes in the transformative power of Catholic education. We are proud to partner with donors to positively impact our local Catholic schools and students. Last year, the Catholic Community Foundation awarded $107,614 in college and Catholic school scholarships. Since our inception in 2006, we have awarded a total of $945,000 in scholarships.

Scholarship applications will open October 1.

Access the Scholarship Application Portal. Returning users can enter their username and password. New users must create a new account.

Complete the general application. You may save your application and continue working on it at any time. Once you have completed the general application, click “Submit.”

Add any additional requirements for specific scholarships. If applicable, the system will prompt you to complete the additional required materials on your dashboard. Once you have completed each application, click “Submit.”

If you receive an award, please complete our Scholarship Impact form. College scholarship recipients will be notified of their award in May. Catholic school scholarship recipients will be notified of their award in June.

College Scholarships

All Saints Central

Lori Stillwell Memorial Scholarship

For a graduating All Saints Central High School student who is enrolled in an accredited college. Applicants must be involved in extra curricular activities, have a GPA of 2.7 in high school, maintain a 2.5 GPA in college, and be enrolled in a health or education curriculum.

The scholarship amount will be determined annually.

Josh Jasman Scholarship

To support college scholarships for any graduate of a Bay County high school.

Catholic High Schools

LeFevre & Rokita Families Catholic College Advised Scholarship

For students who wish to attend an approved Catholic college from the Cardinal Newman Society recommended college list. Applicant must be a graduate of a Catholic high school of the Diocese of Saginaw. The applicant must show that they attend church weekly and practice their faith through Christian service volunteer work.

If there are multiple qualified applicants the scholarship may be split. Scholarship(s) of a maximum of $1,000 will be awarded for up to four years.

General

Edward & Marie Abele Memorial Scholarship

Applicants must be residents of Saginaw, Bay, or Midland counties attending a Michigan university/college of any kind, not necessarily Roman Catholic. Primary critera will be students between the ages of 16-30 years of age who are diligent and sincere practitioners of the Roman Catholic faith; non-seminarians at any public or private college/university within the US; or residents of any of the 11 counties of the Diocese of Saginaw if attending any Roman Catholic seminary anywhere.

St. Thomas Aquinas Slominski Scholarship

For any senior in a Saginaw County High School who is also a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School (now known as Nouvel Catholic Central Elementary School). Financial need will be a consideration.

The scholarship amount will be determined annually.

Anthony & Elizabeth Brenske Memorial Scholarship

Applicants must be residents of Saginaw, Bay, or Midland counties attending a Michigan university/college of any kind, not necessarily Roman Catholic. Primary criteria will be financial need and academic achievement. Preference will be given to applicants who are students at or from Nouvel Catholic Central High School, and/or are attending Saginaw Valley State University, and/or were previously awarded any grant or loan from the loan trust.

If there are multiple qualified applicants the scholarship may be split. The scholarship amount will be determined annually.

Cyril William Brenske Memorial Scholarship

Applicants must be residents of Saginaw, Bay, or Midland counties attending a Michigan university/college of any kind, not necessarily Roman Catholic. Preference will be given to applicants who are students at or from Nouvel Catholic Central High School, and/or are attending Saginaw Valley State University, and/or were previously awarded any grant or loan from the loan trust.

Hopeful Future Scholarship

The Hopeful Future Scholarship is designated for pregnant women or new moms. Applications are open all year so long as funds are available. Scholarships are available for a one-time renewal. To apply via the Online Portal, click here.

Hopeful Future Scholarship

The Hopeful Future Scholarship serves to assist pregnant women or new moms in continuing their college classes to achieve their dreams while choosing life.

This scholarship is meant to support a pregnant, biological female and/or a biological female currently raising a biological child who is less than two years old at the time of the application. Scholarship(s) will be awarded in the amount not less than $1,000. The student must be a current or incoming part-time or full-time student enrolled and/or attending Saginaw Valley State University or Delta College.

Scholarship opportunities are open year round so long as funds are available. Scholarships are available for a one-time renewal.

Nouvel Catholic Central

Berberovich Memorial College Education Scholarship

For students from St. Thomas Aquinas parish in Saginaw who have graduated from a Saginaw Catholic high school who plan to enroll in a Catholic college or university.

If there are multiple qualified applicants the scholarship may be split. The scholarship amount will be determined annually.

Bob Logan Memorial Scholarship

For a college-bound graduate of Nouvel Catholic Central High School who will have a major or minor in music (vocal or instrumental). Students must have been involved in vocal or instrumental music in high school either at Nouvel or in their parish.

If there are multiple qualified applicants the scholarship may be split. The scholarship amount will be determined annually.

Cesario Hernandez Memorial Advised Scholarship

For a graduate of Nouvel Catholic Central High School or public school pursuing a career in one of the following areas: Medicine (doctor, nurse, researcher); Civil Engingeering; or Computer Science/Computer Engineering. Student must be enrolled in a minimum of 10 credits, at minimum sustain a B average in high school, and be of Mexican descent. Preference will be given to Nouvel Catholic Central High School students.

The scholarship of $1,000 may be renewed one time.

Craig Siler Scholarship

For a graduating Nouvel Catholic Central senior who has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher throughout their four years of high school, and who has participated in music/performing arts all four years of high school. Applicant must also have participated meaningfully in liturgies and used their talent for the betterment of the school.

The scholarship amount will be determined annually.

Fr. E. C. LeFevre College Scholarship

For students graduating from Nouvel Catholic Central High School.

Larry J. Oswald Memorial Scholarship

For a graduating Nouvel Catholic Central High School student who is admitted and enrolled in an accredited college/university. The applicant must show financial need and must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 throughout their four years of high school. Integrity, character, and dedication to studies will be considered.

Scholarships will be a minimum of $250 per year. The number of scholarships will be determined by the market value of the fund.

Maria Elizabeth Paquette Memorial Scholarship for the Advancement of Life

For a graduating Nouvel Catholic Central High School student who is admitted and enrolled in an accredited college/university. The applicant must have attended Nouvel for at least two years and be a graduate of Nouvel Catholic Central High School. The applicant must exhibit financial need, have maintained a minimum GPA of 2.0, and complete the 750-1000 word essay.

The scholarship amount will be $100.

Northwest Kiwanis Scholarship

For seniors of Nouvel Catholic Central High School who are members of the Academic Olympic Team.

If there are multiple qualified applicants the scholarship may be split. The number of scholarships will be determined by the market value of the fund. The scholarship amount will be determined annually.

Patrick Ackerman Scholarship

For a graduating Nouvel Catholic Central senior who has maintained a B average or better throughout all four years of high school, and who has actively participated in all phases of student life.

Rod Luplow Memorial Scholarship

For a graduating Nouvel Catholic Central High School student who is admitted and enrolled in an accredited college/university and who has participated in Nouvel’s football program. The student must be able to show financial need and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 throughout their four years of high school at Nouvel and possess characteristics of leadership, character, and determination.

Scott Dangel Scholarship

For a Nouvel Catholic Central senior who is admitted and enrolled in an accredited college/university. The student must be an athlete who exhibits athletic ability and who is working up to their full academic potential.

The scholarship amount will be determined annually.

Shannan Marie Thompson Memorial Scholarship

For a Nouvel Catholic Central senior who is admitted and enrolled in an accredited college/university. Financial need is not a factor. Recipients will be selected on the basis of scholastic achievement and/or desirable qualities of character and leadership. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.25

As allowed by the fund, a scholarship maximum of $1,000 may be awarded.

Timothy Horny Nouvel Baseball Scholarship

For a graduating Nouvel Catholic Central senior who will be attending an accredited institution of higher learning. The student must be of good character and academic ability who participated in baseball for all four years of high school.

For Nouvel Catholic Central students to attend college.

As allowed by the fund, one scholarship of a maximum of $1,000 may be awarded. The scholarship amount will be determined annually.

Barbara Shaffran Scholarship

To offer tuition assistance to any student attending Nouvel Catholic Central Elementary School, previously known as St. Thomas Aquinas School, on the basis of financial need.

The scholarship amount will be determined annually.

Henry Penzkofer Scholarship

For eighth grade students at Nouvel Catholic Central Elementary School, previously known as St. Thomas Aquinas School, who wish to attend Nouvel Catholic Central High School. The scholarship may be used for books, uniforms, and comprehensive fees for students attending Nouvel Catholic Central High School.

Holy Spirit of Christ Scholarship in Honor of Dick & Angela Wolohan

For Catholic or non-Catholic children to attend the Saginaw Area Catholic Schools, Nouvel Catholic Central, who are not financially able to afford a Catholic education.

Holy Spirit of Christ Scholarship in Honor of Philip C. Richards

For Catholic or non-Catholic children to attend the Saginaw Area Catholic Schools, Nouvel Catholic Central, who are not financially able to afford a Catholic education.

Nansen J. DiMercurio Scholarship

For a student who will be enrolled in their freshman year at Nouvel Catholic Central High School. The student will be of good moral character, an average student, and in financial need.

Reverend Michael J. Bell Memorial Scholarship

For incoming freshman students at Nouvel Catholic Central High School who are of the Catholic faith and truly demonstrate financial need.

Shannan Marie Thompson Memorial Scholarship

For a graduate of Nouvel Catholic Central Junior High, who is enrolled in Nouvel Catholic Central High School. Financial need is a factor. Other criteria for selection include:

  • Demonstrated Christian values
  • Scholastic achievement
  • Leadership competencies

It is the family’s wishes that the scholarship support two incoming freshmen from Nouvel Elementary per academic year (two scholarships of at least $1,000 per year).

Smith Family Advised Scholarship

To fund scholarships to Nouvel Catholic Central Elementary school students. Students will be awarded based on the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Enrolled at one of the Saginaw Area Catholic Schools such as Nouvel Catholic Central Elementary school

Scholarships will be awarded to one young man and one young lady. Students receiving the scholarship are observed to be:

  • Demonstrating their full academic potential
  • Living and sharing the Christian ideals and values of respect and responsibility
  • Being involved in extra-curricular activities directly related to school

Jane M. Meeker Scholarship

For students who are members in good standing of St. Mary’s Cathedral Church. Awards will be determined based on a given student’s academic ability. Scholarships may be awarded to students enrolled in a Catholic high school for high school tuition.

Lilian & Harold Wagner Scholarship

Students receiving the scholarship are observed to be exhibiting a solid academic performance, maintaining at least a 2.5 GPA, living and sharing the Christian ideals and values of respect and responsibility, and truly demonstrating financial need.

Michael S. Leahy Scholarship

The student(s) chosen need to be of a good moral character demonstrating their full potential both inside and outside of the classroom. The student(s) should possess good study habits with a desire to learn. Financial need will be a consideration. The student(s) need not be of Catholic faith. First priority will be given to minority students.

Kate & Dan Zielinski Scholarship

Students from St. Josaphat Parish will be given first priority. Stuents must be registered at Nouvel Catholic Central High School and must be deemed living and sharing the Christian ideals and values of respect and responsibility. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and be involved in extra-curricular activities directly related to school and church.

Marguerite L. Jochen Memorial Scholarship

For students who are accepted and enrolled at Nouvel Catholic Central High School. Financial need will be a factor in selecting recipients. Criteria for selection of candidates include:

  • Demonstrated Christian values
  • Scholarship achievement
  • Leadership potential

Recipients will be eligible to reapply each year as long as they maintain a minimum GPA of 2.25 or higher as a student at Nouvel. It is the hope that the scholarship will support up to four students per academic year—freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior.

Marsha Porath Advised Scholarship

For a Nouvel Catholic Central Elementary School student to attend Nouvel Catholic Central High School. Student demonstrates a financial need and plans of future service to the community. Student must submit an essay to the scholarship committee about their service plans. A student with a 3.5 GPA or higher will be given preferential consideration.

Martin Gembrowski Family Advised Scholarship

For a student who attends Nouvel Catholic Central High School. Student must be nominated by their current Catholic school or home parish. Student must demonstrate that they are active in their Catholic faith. Student must provide a written letter which illustrates good reasoning for requesting financial assistance. Scholarship money must be used for tuition, books, fees, or other educational materials.

The scholarship is $1,000 and renewable for each year the student attends Nouvel Catholic Central High School.

Osthelder Foundation Scholarship

For students to attend Nouvel Catholic Central High School based on financial need.

Rose Watson Scholarship

For students wishing to attend Nouvel Catholic Central High School. Aid will be given on the basis of financial need.

Saginaw County League of Catholic Women Scholarship

For students that have completed one full year at Nouvel Catholic Central High School and who will be attending the school the following year. Aid will be given on the basis of financial need. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Smith Family Advised Scholarship

To fund scholarships to Nouvel Catholic Central High School students. Students will be awarded based on the following criteria:

For students who have completed one full year at Nouvel Catholic Central High School and will attend the school the following year.

Stanley J. Devoir Scholarship

For students to attend Nouvel Catholic Central High School based on financial need.

For students to attend Nouvel Catholic Central High School based on financial need.

Thomas F. James Memorial Leadership Award Scholarship

For a student in each of the sophomore, junior, and senior classes at Nouvel Catholic Central High School. The student will be guided by Christian values, and has demonstrated leadership ability in school and/or the community. Award winners’ names will be placed on a plaque, and they will receive a savings bond with the face value of no less than $50.

Timothy C. McInerney Scholarship

For students registered at Nouvel Catholic Central who are graduates of a Catholic grade school and who have the recommendation of the staff of that grade school. Students must have an average GPA and demonstrate financial need. Students must demonstrate an interest in science, with top consideration to students studying Biology.
