A Flicker of Hope: The East Side Soup Kitchen

During the last two years, the Daniel and Josephine Cistone Advised Fund, established in the name of the late Most Rev. Bishop Joseph Cistone’s parents, has provided almost $8,000 to organizations serving the poor and vulnerable across the Diocese of Saginaw.

One organization to receive support is the East Side Soup Kitchen in Saginaw.

At the Kitchen, the funding helps provide hot meals to an average of 250 guests who comes to the doors at lunchtime each day. So far this year, the Kitchen has served nearly 73,000 meals, an increase of 10 percent from last year. In addition, about 500 meals a week are served to children as part of the After-School Program.

“We are truly grateful for support from the Cistone Fund,” said Dawn Goodrow, director of the East Side Soup Kitchen. “We see people who have lost the flame, but with the help of our donors, we can give them a flicker of hope.”
